EDA’s position on the maximum prices of dentures
We are forwarding the position of the Estonian Dental Association (EDA).
EDA’s position on the list of prosthetic services and maximum prices
The EDA formed the following position at the council meeting on 29 September 2017.
The Estonian Dental Association deplores the situation where the Estonian Health Insurance Fund is forced, under the political pressure of the Minister of Health, to hastily compile a list of prosthetic services, due to which the competence of the professional association is not utilised in the updating of services.
Due to the short deadline, the Estonian Dental Association is unable to thoroughly examine the list of prosthetic services and the table of descriptions. We will not be able to organise these tables within the given deadline and we certainly do not wish to do so poorly because we see what happened to the maximum prices of dental care services.
The painful experience of the Estonian Dental Association with the updating of dental care prices indicates that the prices determined by EHIF do not cover the actual costs associated with the appointments. However, the adjustment of the established maximum prices is an extremely slow process because, to date, the EHIF has not managed to correct the obvious errors in the spreadsheets of dental services that we have pointed out.
The EDA deplores the situation where the process of updating of vital healthcare services suffers due to haste from political pressure, and as a result of which the aggressive establishment of the maximum prices of dentures leads to a situation where the incompetently organised denture benefit service will not be available to those in need from January 2018 due to noncompliance with the actual situation.
